What is Sira?
Sira is a Virtual Museum of West African masks and their stories. It is a curated virtual sanctuary, a living chronicle dedicated to preserving and presenting the profound world of West African masquerade and art.
Developed by Delou Africa, Inc., Sira reimagines how audiences encounter West African masking traditions by bridging past and present, honoring the living spirits, ancient stories, and ancestral wisdom embodied within each sacred mask.
The name Sira, from the Malinké language meaning "path" or "journey," reflects how knowledge moves through story, ceremony, performance, and ancestral memory. Guided by four interconnected pillars—Stories, Ideas, Rites, and Ancestry—Sira reveals masks not as static objects, but as living expressions of culture, creativity, and community.

Four Pillars of sira
Stories
Stories are not just told-they are carried. In each mask lives the memory of a people, the echo of a moment, and the wisdom of those who came before. When you see the mask, you are also meeting its story.
Ideas
Ideas shape the meaning behind every mask. They reflect beliefs, values, and ways of understanding the world-expressed through form, symbol, and design.
Rites
Rites bring the mask to life. Through movement, rhythm, and ceremony, the mask becomes active-fulfilling its purpose within the community.
Ancestry
Ancestry grounds the mask in lineage. It carries the presence of those who came before-their knowledge, their practices, and the continuity of cultural memory.
